Allison Williams and Lynne Peacock
Community Artists
Art and About is a constituted non profit arts organisation with an objective to use art to benefit the community by increasing skills and self esteem.
It run by a board of three directors and headed up by community artists Allison Williams and Lynne Peacock.
Allison and Lynne met in early 2000 when doing a foundation course and went on to achieve BAs in Art and Design at York St John University. Allison specialises in textiles and Lynne in fine art.
Art and About provide an extensive range of art workshops by highly experienced community artists who motivate and encourage participants.
Since starting Art and About, Lynne and Allison have worked intensely on a wide variety of projects. These include:
- Working on arts regeneration projects with older people
- Being 'Artists in Residence' at Schools
- Co-ordinating York City Art Gallery community Art projects with partially sighted people, young mums, mental ill health groups, carers and multicutural groups
- Delivering children's summer holiday arts groups
- Running a 5 week arts project with women in a local prison.
Lynne and Allison are constantly developing new skills by attending further training and specialised art courses.
As well as their creative backgrounds, both community artists manage their own families and Lynne was a Registered General Nurse for a number of years. Their life experience has been a crucial factor in understanding how to work with community groups in both a sympathetic and empowering way.
